Can You Prevent Hearing Aid Repairs

A hearing aid is a significantly positive device for those experiencing hearing loss. It can improve the lives of so many. Our hearing is something that we take for granted most of the time due to the fact that we never really go a day without using them. It not only allows us to understand sounds, but it keeps us balanced and allows us to perceive things a lot better.

Hearing aids aren’t perfect, however. They are an invention that helps so much, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t without flaws. Some may come as faulty, and others may be worn down over time. You can prevent your hearing aid from needing repairs, however. Here are some ways you can do so:  

By keeping them away from moisture and liquids

There are plenty of hearing devices out there that are resistant to moisture, but only a few are waterproof. When hearing aids are exposed to a lot of water or moisture, they can tend to malfunction. They can damage the inner electronics and render them completely useless if you’re not careful. Even if you have a waterproof device, keep them away from water or moisture because you never know what might happen. 

By keeping it in a safe environment

This sounds obvious, but many people place their devices anywhere. This can lead to a lot more damage than perhaps they would have liked. They may leave it isolated on the bedside table without realizing it and hit it as they place something on top of it. They may also leave it on the floor and accidentally crush it. It’s wise to keep a box or a case handy to be used as storage. 

Clean your ears frequently!

When your ears build up a lot of wax, you typically remove it naturally or by using a safe method. When you wear a hearing device, the process of removing the wax tends to be slowed a little. Covering the device in wax can make it function worse than usual. If you keep both your ears and the device clean regularly, then you’ll improve both the function and the lifespan of your hearing aid.

Look at the battery

This is another obvious point, but the batteries could have a significant impact on everything. A lot of hearing aids come with rechargeable or disposable batteries. Test the batteries and make sure that they are positioned correctly in your hearing aid. If you feel as though it’s a deeper problem in terms of the battery or the compartment, then speak with your hearing provider. 

Avoid using hair sprays and other similar products 

We mean that you should avoid using these while wearing your hearing aids. Be sure not to soak your head or hair in products with hearing aids as the chemicals can damage the inner workings of your device. Remove the device before and after. 

Look at the behind-the-ear (BTE) tubing
